The serious 1997 Chianti Classico Riserva (4,000 cases of 100% Sangiovese) is structured, dense, concentrated, and ageworthy. It requires 1-2 years of cellaring. A deep ruby/garnet color is followed by aromas of dried herbs, roasted beef, black cherries, plums, cedar, and leather. On the palate, blackberry fruit makes an appearance.
