AOC Puisseguin Saint-Emilion
Mouth: Beautiful and opulent mouth. very well balanced. with dense yet elegant tannin structure.
Varietal: Merlot, Cabernet Franc blend
Vintage: 2003
Located very close to Saint-Emilion, this AOC is distinguished by its elevation and its little-known wines with great character. Here Merlots produce mature wines with a fleshy and full texture. This Appellation, which was also created in 1936, has the highest elevation (89 m) in the Saint-Emilion region. Its south and southeast exposure makes it a perfect winegrowing region; it has all the conditions necessary to ripen and produce healthy and concentrated grapes. Although Puisseguin-Saint-Emilion is fairly hilly, the main component of its soils is the clay-limestone mix that is common to the region. But here it covers rocks from which the roots absorb the nutrition they require and sustain the vines during the hot and frequently dry summers. The blend remains faithful to traditional Saint-Emilion wines with Merlot dominating (60% of vines planted) due to the clay-limestone soils. In these conditions, it ripens easily even with the weather. Cabernet Franc, at 30%, is its preferred partner.
